San Francisco

Update... 22nd March... We forgot to mention that there was a small Earthquake when we were in San Francisco. It was in a place called Dublin, California. We found out from the Cable Car driver later that night.

Firstly... wow!

San Francisco... what an amazing place! We have had a great couple of days here is San Fran. It is like so many cities moulded into one. We have walked around for the last couple of days with our mouths open.

It truly is everything you would expect to see and more! One of the great things is that the hotel we booked into has turned out to be bloody brilliant. It was $60 a night so to be honest we really weren't expecting much but its great, big room, cute little balcony, very nice bathroom, free internet, free breakfast and it is right in the middle of downtown!

We have been walking everywhere... man are we tired, we have also been enjoying the old school cable cars. Yesterday we hired some bikes to ride across to the Golden Gate Bridge and it was such a great day. We made the mistake of not dressing for the occasion... Simon wore shorts and Zoe set out in just a t-shirt.... ahaha within 10 minutes Zoe had bought herself a token "San Francisco" jumper and Simon was ready to cry and go home. Like troupers though we ploughed on and the sun came out to play a little later. When we first started out we were riding into the wind and it was awful... we were cycling so slow that some people jogging on the same path ran past us... very embarrassing! There are some photo's below which show how cloudy and foggy it was early and then how much it cleared up a little later.

It was like we were there on different days....

We kept the bikes for most of the day and rode around some of the less steep streets! We made our way to the "Crookedest Street" in the world, Lombard Street and rode down that too. We've been hanging out at so many places from movies and tv shows it has been a lot of fun!

Today, Thursday, we caught the bus to a street called Haight Street and went shopping. They have a lot of vintage clothing shops on Haight Street. It was crazy, we only spent about $150 dollars but came out with four 5 jackets, 4 t-shirts, 1 pair of shoes and a really nice carry bag! No joke either... every time we were in a vintage shop we heard Aussie music... it was very odd... It started with Madison Avenue "Who the Hell are you?", then CDB "Lets Groove" and finally SIlverchair "World Upon Your Shoulders"... very funny! It was the first time Simon has really enjoyed clothes shopping!

On the way back from shopping we caught the bus back to the centre of the city and there was this very random native San Francisco man on it. He was having a beef with the bus driver over where he could put his bag and then started calling himself the devil because he couldn't follow rules... He kept going on about it for ages and naturally we found him very funny and started talking to him. Turns out he used to be a street performer and has been selling feather earrings in California for 25 years. Before we got off at our stop he gave Zoe a pair of earrings from his bag that the bus driver wouldn't let him put on a shelf at the front. Welcome to San Fran!

Today also marks a really big day for us... we bought a lap top computer! Woot woot... connected to the big world now. It is something we have wanted to do for a while but never got around to it and we came across the apple store here in San Fran and got a good deal, so we are really happy! Over here it is amazing how many places have free wire less internet, you can practically get it any where so we will be making the most of that!

Have got to run, must be up early for the drive down to Los Angeles tomorrow morning! We can't wait, apparently the coast line is amazing! Thanks for stopping by, take care, Mitch n Zobo xoxo
